chemical spill kit and cytotoxic spill kit with yellow absorbent pads, socks, pillows, and a chemical and/or cytotoxic PPE kit.

Chemical Spill Kits — Extended Technical Information & Workplace Guidance

Absorbency Summary

Pads absorb up to 1.4L each
Socks (1.2mtr) absorb up to 6L each and (3mtr) absorb up to 15L each
Pillows absorb up to 9L each
Loose absorbents (peat, mineral sponge, spillfix): variable capacity depending on application rate

EnviroproNZ supplies multiple kit configurations to suit different workplace environments, spill volumes, and chemical hazards.

Material Summary

Polypropylene chemical absorbents designed for corrosive and hazardous liquid spills. Absorbs acids, bases, aggressive chemicals, unknown substances, and mixed‑chemical spills. Bright yellow absorbents provide high visibility and clear hazard identification.  Includes Uni‑Safe chemical binder for stabilising alkalis, and soda ash neutraliser in selected kits for managing common workplace acids.

Suitability

Suitable for managing spills involving corrosive liquids (acids and alkalis), hazardous chemicals, aggressive fluids, and unknown substances.
Ideal for workshops, laboratories, manufacturing sites, chemical storage areas, transport depots, engineering facilities, and any environment where corrosive or hazardous chemical spills may occur.

Limitations

Not suitable for:  Oxidising acids (nitric, chromic, perchloric), hydrofluoric acid,  highly reactive chemicals requiring specialised neutralisation, and large‑scale chemical releases requiring emergency services

For cytotoxic drug spills, a Cytotoxic Spill Kit is required.

Compliance Note

Supports HSWA and EPA requirements for managing corrosive and hazardous chemical spills in New Zealand workplaces.
Neutraliser‑enhanced kits support compliant acid‑spill response where soda ash is appropriate.

PPE Kit (varies by environment)

Chemical Spill Kits include PPE appropriate for the environment they are used in.

Chemical PPE Kit:
Disposable Type 5/6 chemical‑resistant disposable coveralls
Safety goggles (medium impact splash protection)
P2 respirator
Chemical‑resistant gloves
Waste disposal bag
DG labels (hazard identification)

Biohazard Spill Kit – Technical Information

Material Summary

Polypropylene absorbents and biohazard‑specific cleanup tools designed for managing general biological contamination. Suitable for spills involving organic matter, biological residues, contaminated materials, and general biohazard waste. Includes bio‑waste disposal bags for compliant containment and removal.

Suitability

The Biohazard Spill Kit is suitable for managing general contamination involving:
Biological residues
Organic matter
Contaminated materials
Pest‑related contamination
Non‑chemical biological hazards
General biohazard waste requiring controlled cleanup

Ideal for laboratories, healthcare support areas, food‑processing environments, transport depots, public facilities, veterinary clinics, and any workplace where biological contamination may occur.

Limitations

Not suitable for:
Chemical spills (acids, alkalis, solvents)
Cytotoxic or chemotherapy drug spills
Highly infectious or regulated medical waste
Hazardous substances requiring chemical neutralisation

Compliance Note

Supports HSWA and EPA requirements for managing general biological contamination in New Zealand workplaces. Bio‑waste disposal bags provide compliant containment for non‑chemical biohazard waste.

PPE Kit (Biohazard Spill Kit)

Includes PPE appropriate for general biohazard environments:
Nitrile Gloves
Safety Goggles
P2 Respirator
Bio‑waste disposal bags
Brush and pan set
Broom and pan set
Flashlight and headlamp (for low‑light or outdoor contamination response)
Specimen jar (for safe containment of biological samples or residues)
20 L pail (tamper‑evident containment)

Cytotoxic Spill Kit – Technical Information

Suitability

Suitable for managing spills involving cytotoxic or chemotherapy drugs, hazardous pharmaceutical residues, and aggressive liquids. Ideal for oncology wards, chemotherapy preparation rooms, hospital pharmacies, veterinary oncology, laboratories handling cytotoxic agents and transport depots.
